Description
Tool Shop 4.0 is a band technique book designed for developing band musicians, typically in their 2nd or 3rd year, or beyond. Content includes PDFs of the following:
Daily Drill – concert band warm-ups that develop individual player skills related to tone, tuning, time, and more.
Range Expansion – a linear sequence that gradually expands the player’s range
Pentascales – in all 12 Major keys
Major Scales – in all 12 keys
minor scales – in all 12 keys
Chromatic Scales – learned sequentially, starting with 5 note patterns all the way through 2-octave scales.
Melodic Exercises & Songs in 8 Key Signatures – Bb, F, Eb, C, Ab, Db, G, & D Major, as well as their relative minors. After years of teaching with Tool Shop versions 1.0 through 3.1, my students asked for more melodic material – “things that felt more like music, and less like exercises.” So, here we are with version 4.0, filled with student-reviewed & approved melodies that are equally fun to play & challenging!

FYI – Tool Shop v 1.0, 2.0, and 3.1 are still available for free. They are filled with scales & commonly-used band exercises. Tool Shop 4.0 sets itself apart because it use a much more melodic approach while still achieving the goal of technical proficiency & key signature mastery. It gets the job done while being more fun!
